Leadership & Administration Certificate
Courses in this program include:
Forming the Missional Leader
The basics of leadership combine with spiritual formation and theology to introduce the student to the field of pastoral leadership. Self-understanding, intentional leadership and integrity are integrated to assure the leader is qualified spiritually and informed about leadership principles.
Dynamics of Leadership and Management
This course unites leadership and management to assure a better understanding between what has become separate fields. Entrepreneurial skills will be studied as well as organization, communication and supervision. Decision-making for leaders and managers will be compared with equal appreciation.
Implementing Strategic Planning
The process of planning will be explored with an eye for implementation. Any plan must take into account the needs of the constituency and the cultural patterns and values. Planning requires a compelling mission, a clear communication of vision and a calendar for time lines. Success can be determined by knowing the desired outcomes and assessing the achievement of those goals. Most all plans require financial support and management of a budget.
Transitioning to Change
Transition and change will be defined. The art of transitioning a congregation to change will be studied and applied. The purpose for change will be described. Change can be either cancerous or creative. Effort will be given to opening the doors to creative, sustained and helpful change.
Resolving and Managing Conflict
Conflict generally produces unacceptable results. Scripture and human experience combine to use conflict for redemptive purposes. Students will learn how to reduce the level of fear, establish a climate of unity and structure a congregation to manage or to resolve conflict. Conflict resolution transcends the patterns of shaming and blaming to honor the value of persons and to elevate God.
Developing and Deploying Volunteers
Effective leadership includes team building. Recent literature in spiritual mentoring will shape the organizational management of personnel. Issues such as recruiting, training, inspiring and encouraging volunteers describe the heart of this course. The student will learn how faith intersects with the management of churches and how to develop the skills of non-paid workers.
